Barcelona Easter Training Camp – student report

Sights of Barcelona

The day we flew out to Barcelona finally came upon us and we were all very excited but amongst all the excitement we were all extremely nervous as we were told there was a general strike in Spain and 10 out of 12 flights to Barcelona had been cancelled, luckily enough, out flight was one of the two flights going!

The week consisted of 13 swim sessions, all two hours long and we also had 7 land work sessions totalling to around 33 hours of training in one week!

On the 4th day of the camp, we were lucky enough to go on a tour around Barcelona and visit some of Gaudi’s creations such as the Sangrada Familia as well as visiting Barcelona FC football ground, the Nou Camp.

All the hard work and determination on the camp paid off as at the London swimming regional championships on the 5th and 6th of May, I achieved my 800m freestyle national time by 3 seconds  and also taking 6 seconds off my personal best time! I will go and compete at the British swimming youth nationals later this year in July to race all the other swimmers who have achieved this time!
