Childcare

At Level 2 students learn about the basics of working with children in childcare settings. The course aims to develop students understanding of a variety of topics which include: In year 10: Learning styles, jobs in childcare, teamwork and in year 11: How children develop, different aspects that can have an impact on how children develop.
Students are assessed through 2 2000 word essays and a multiple choice question paper.
There is no work experience necessary at this level.

The course is divided into 3 levels: Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma.
Students are required to have at least a 4 in Maths and English in order to study the Diploma, but all can reach the Certificate.
The course involves both a practical and a theory section, with placements being arranged by school.
The aim of the course is to allow students to move on to working in Nurseries and schools with a qualification that means they are able to count in staff ratios according to the government guidlines.
