Government & Politics

In Politics we study the Edexcel course. Politics enables students to develop an insight into political beliefs central to an understanding of the modern world. The focus of the course is contemporary political issues, such lessons are often discussion based.

The course covers two key areas:
UK Politics and political ideologies Year 1
Comparative politics – US Politics – Year 2

Within UK politics students study political participation, such as democracy, political parties, voting behaviour and the impact of the media. The three core political ideas of conservatism, liberalism and socialism are studied along with the UK Government.

In US politics, the key areas studied are the US Constitution and federalism, congress, presidency, Supreme Court, civil rights, democracy and participation. Students are to further develop their understanding by comparing institutions, political processes in the US to the UK.
