Sixth Form Open Evening
On Wednesday 23 January, 7pm -9pm, we are holding our Open Evening for all current Year 11 parents/carers and students to come along to meet the Head of Sixth Form and subject staff to discuss subject options in Sixth Form. This is a great opportunity for both the students and parents/carers and I hope to see as good an attendance at this event as we usually experience. This event is also open to students currently studying at other schools who are interested in joining Bushey Meads for their Sixth Form study. We look forward to welcoming you all on Wednesday.
Co-operation during the severe weather – thank you!
I would like to thank all parents, carers, students and staff for their cooperation during the severe weather this week, in particular on Monday when it was pouring down with snow for most of the day. I was extremely impressed; not only was the school fully staffed, but we also had excellent attendance rates from students – in fact our attendance rate was 96%. Thank you to everyone for getting their child to school.
Of course we are not out of the inclement weather yet as the country is caught in a very cold spell. May I remind you of our procedure if the school was forced to close or partially close:
- a notice will be put on the front page of the website here, replacing my Headlines –if we awake any day to extreme inclement conditions the notice would be posted very early in the morning so is the quickest way for you to confirm if the school is open (if there is no notice then the school is open)
- Parents / Carers will receive a text informing them of any closure (NB due to the volume of texts this involves the arrival of the message may be late, plus other schools would be doing the same and so local networks could be extremely busy)
- A school closure notice will be placed on the HertsDirect site
I will always endeavour to open the school and it will only be closed in the most extreme conditions where I have no alternative in the interests of everyone’s safety. WHATEVER THE WEATHER, THE SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN AND PROVISION MADE FOR EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS TO STILL GO AHEAD.
Thank you once again for your cooperation to date and in anticipation of your continuing support.
You may remember my article in the newsletter towards the end of last year informing you of my candidacy for the UK Youth Parliament. We are now only a week away from the beginning of voting and I’d like to take this opportunity to remind students to please vote for me to help make a difference for them and other young people around the county. Voting opens at 9am on Monday 28th January. To read about my priorities and vote, visit http://www.channelmogo.org/video/alex-h-video-manifesto.aspx
Many thanks for you continued support
