HEADLINES – w/c 18 March 2013
This week is our annual Health Week and our PE and Health Faculty have a whole programme of activities and events to focus all the staff as well as students on the important issue of our personal health.
During PE lessons all students in Years 7-11 will be completing the multi-stage fitness test to assess their levels of cardiovascular fitness. The school nurse will also be doing individual student height and weight checks. Students in Years 8-11 will be able to refer back to their fitness tests on the Learning Gateway for the last two years which is of course building up a history of results for them and enables them to monitor their improvement year on year.
Monday and Tuesday after school in the Hospitality suite Masterchef competitions are taking place. Working in pairs, students will design and cook a healthy two-course meal for less than £7. There will be prizes for the winners of course.
The finale of the week will be on Friday (weather permitting!) when the whole school, including many of our staff, will participate in a Fun Run in aid of The British Heart Foundation. It will be a non-uniform day with restrictions – sports wear or fancy dress, one article at least of which must be red. Students are requested to donate £1 to The British Heart Foundation to participate in this and this is being collected already by our team of Sports Leaders.
There is also a full programme of extra-curricular sports this week including District Rugby Tournaments, basketball and football matches and the usual weekly sports clubs. Full details can be found on the school website Practical Information/Calendar and Key Dates/PE Fixtures.
I hope your child enjoys the fun of Friday’s all-school event and finds some other activities in which to participate through the course of the week.
