Uniform

A high standard of personal appearance is expected of all students. Uniform is enforced in order to promote an orderly working environment and to eliminate visible differences in the affluence of students’ homes. Non-uniform items will be confiscated and kept in the school office until the end of the school day. For repeat offences items will be confiscated for a longer period and/or parents will be required to collect the item from school.

BOYS

  • Smart black polyester/viscose straight leg or bootleg trousers
  • White shirt with buttoned collar (short or long sleeved) – this must be tucked into the trousers at all times
  • Green BMS branded blazer – currently only available from DJ uniforms
  • Grey V-necked BMS jumper (optional) – available from the school uniform suppliers. Cardigans, hooded tops or other jumpers are not to be worn
  • House tie – available from the school uniform suppliers
  • Smart plain black leather shoes – see guidelines below
  • Socks: Plain grey or black socks
  • Coat: Plain black or navy (no denim, leather, patterned fabrics, ‘hoodies’ or items bearing logos)

GIRLS

  • Smart black polyester/viscose straight leg or bootleg trousers or smart plain black polyester/viscose skirt. The skirt must be no shorter than 5 cm above the knee and must not be tight fitting
  • White shirt with buttoned collar (short or long sleeved) – this must be tucked into the skirt/trousers at all times
  • Green BMS branded blazer – currently only available from DJ uniforms
  • Grey V-necked BMS jumper (optional) – available from the school uniform suppliers. Cardigans, hooded tops or other jumpers are not to be worn
  • House tie – available from the school uniform suppliers
  • Smart plain black leather shoes – see guidelines below
  • Black or white ankle socks to be worn with trousers, black tights to be worn with skirts – white ankle socks may be worn in the summer with a skirt instead of tights. No knee high socks or trainer socks to be worn
  • Coat: Plain black or navy (no denim, leather, patterned fabrics, ‘hoodies’ or items bearing logos)
  • Plain black, dark blue, dark green or grey scarf or hijab
  • Plain black hair clips or hair bands. No flowers, bows or other adornments
  • Hats of any description are not to be worn in the school building.

Guidelines regarding footwear: Boots or fashion shoes are NOT allowed. Trainers or similar sports shoes are also NOT acceptable and should not be worn inside the school building nor on the journey to or from school. If there is a medical need to wear trainers, the School Nurse must receive a medical letter. The School Nurse will then examine the student’s feet to see if she agrees that the medical reason is valid. If not, plimsolls will be issued and the trainers will be confiscated and not returned until the student comes to school wearing shoes.

House Ties: Available to purchase from the school suppliers. The House colours are as follows:
ASH – Pale Blue BEECH – Purple ELM – Royal Blue MAPLE – Orange
OAK – Burgundy SYCAMORE – Yellow WILLOW – Red

Hairstyles
Hair should be kept neat and tidy and should not be dyed unnatural hair colours, be shaved off or have colours or patterns/ words cut or woven into it. ‘Cult’ hairstyles are not allowed. If students come to school with hairstyles deemed to be inappropriate, their parents will be asked to have the hairstyle changed to an acceptable style.

Jewellery
Pierced-ear jewellery: One sleeper earring or stud per ear is allowed but must be removed for reasons of health and safety if required by staff. No cartilage piercings or ear lobe extenders are permitted.
Body piercings (other than for one pair of pierced earrings – see above): Body piercings are not allowed. If students come to school with pierced body jewellery, they will be asked to remove it. Until this is done, the student will work in isolation from their peers.

Make-up must be discrete (barely noticeable). Nail varnish or acrylic/gel nails must not be worn

Outdoor coats and outdoor footwear: These items are not to be worn in school during lessons or in school buildings. Black scarves and gloves may be worn on the way to and from school but must not be worn in the school buildings.

PE uniform: Both BOYS and GIRLS require the following items:
Black shorts (2 pairs)
Short/ankle white socks
Bushey Meads yellow P.E. polo shirt *
Trainers
Shin pads
Towel

In addition GIRLS require:
Long white socks
Bushey Meads hooded sweatshirt *

Optional items:
Plain black tracksuit bottoms

In addition BOYS require:
Bushey Meads multi-sport top *
Football/rugby boots
Bushey Meads long socks *
Optional items:
Plain black tracksuit bottoms
Bushey Meads hooded sweatshirt*
