Week ending Friday 9 May 2014

Dear Parents/carers,

And so to the end of what seemed to be an even shorter week than the four days that we were afforded. I feel the days and weeks are racing by, before our half term ends, in spite of our endeavour to fill each day to the brim with learning.

Our four days saw our Year 8s visiting Whipsnade Zoo for part of their Science curriculum. I am pleased to say that they were counted in and counted back, without the addition of any rare beasts!

Our Year 12 Design and Technology students spent Wednesday designing and creating a product as part of their AS ‘Innovation Challenge’ , which forms part of their examination.

You will have all received the communication from Mr Turner detailing the results of the parental surveys, completed at or post the consultation evening about our uniform. Many thanks again for attending the meeting and submitting your surveys.

As you know we are always striving to improve our facilities and each year we submit a bid for government funding to re-roof the block that contains reception, our main office, staffroom, library, 6th form study centre, drama rooms, our Business Studies and Humanities rooms. The work will start on or around Monday, 12th May, and you will see scaffolding appearing and moving along the building as the work progresses. To ensure that the public examinations are not affected, the exams that were to be held in the 6th form study centre, will now take place in the gymnasium. This will ensure we uphold the integrity of our examinations practice, of which we are very proud. I would like to thank Mr Cartledge and his team for their support in enabling this to happen. The roofing works should be completed ready for our September start.

We have had our Year 11,12 and 13 students working with our staff to secure their best grades in their French and Spanish oral examination and on Friday evening our Year 12 students presented their Drama performances in front of the examiner, fellow students and parents.

I am sure the picture I present to you, is one of our students and staff working in harmony to ensure our students achieve the very best. We know that you are working as relentlessly behind the scenes in support of all endeavours and of that we are very grateful.

Kind regards

Ms H Morawska
