Dance

In dance, students gain the fundamental skills of choreography, performance and appreciation through observing, discussing and actively exploring a range of dance styles and inclusive topics. Self-reflection, interpersonal skills and teamwork enable the students to develop their creative, artistic, social and physical skills within the dance curriculum.

GCSE dance has three core content areas; performance 30%, choreography 30% and dance appreciation 40%.

The students study a range of dance styles and style fusions. Apart from the solo performance, they can choose any style in which to perform and choreograph, providing it meets the assessment criteria.

A-level dance is a dynamic qualification which encourages students to develop their creative and intellectual capacity, alongside transferable skills such as team working, communication and problem solving. The course reflects both historical and current dance practices, making it more relevant, and inspires a lifelong passion and appreciation for dance.
This course is 50% practical and 50% critical engagement.
