Executive Principal’s Blog – 12.9.25: ’Aspiring to Achieve’

I would like to thank all students, parents and carers and, of course, our hard-working staff for making our first fortnight in school such a positive start to the academic year. Students in all year groups have been Aspiring to Achieve and really focused on learning to the best of their ability, all carefully following the ‘Keys to Success’ in every lesson; it has been impressive to see.

It was a real privilege to welcome so many of our new Year 7 parents and carers to yesterday’s Year 7 Settling In Evening. Our visitors attended an informative presentation in the Main Hall and then went into more informal Character Development Groups to gain a useful insight into all the key aspects of life at Bushey Meads School.  We do hope you found the evening useful and were able to iron out some of the usual worries and anxieties at this important transition. A big thank you must go to our Pastoral leaders, the Year 7 CDCs, Deputy Headteacher Ms de Groot, Pastoral Manager for Year 7 Mrs Doran and Assistant Headteacher Mr Mitman who is the SLT link to Year 7 and coordinated the whole event.

On the subject of Aspiring to Achieve do click on the link below to listen to an impressive Ted Talk given by one of our truly inspirational students Prisha, now in Year 13.  Her talk is entitled ‘Swimming Past Stigma: How Pushing Limits Helps Us Face What’s Inside’. This is a proud milestone for her and she wanted her school community (who has been such a big part of her journey in life) to be among the first to know.  Tedx Talk – Prisha Tapre

Prisha swam the English Channel last year and became the first 16-year-old British Indian ever to complete the challenge. Her time of 11 hours and 48 minutes meant she was the youngest and fastest swimmer in 2024!

We would also like to congratulate another inspirational Sixth Form student Ollie in Year 12, who ran 100 miles in 30 days after finishing his GCSEs. He raised £1100 for Great Ormond Street Hospital!

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend.
