Executive Principal’s Blog – 13.3.26: ‘‘If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything’

Attributed to one of the key characters in the film Back to the Future, Marty McFly’s inspiring words fit very aptly with what we have accomplished at Bushey Meads School over the last two weeks.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate our Year 10 students for completing arguably one of the most successful Work Experience weeks we have seen for some time, based on the number of really positive reports we have had from so many different employers. A few of these reports are provided below and the selection of images show how much our students engaged with their varied placements.

I just wanted to drop you an email to say

how fantastic the work experience students we had last week were. It was Archie, Isaiah, William and Harley. They were a credit to Bushey Meads and represented your school so well. They were mature, helpful and proactive in the classroom. We have 2 internal alternative provisions here and 2 of the boys were amazing in there, supporting our most complex and vulnerable children. However, all 4 boys were a pleasure to have.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have had Oliver working with me all of last week for his work experience. I was very pleased with his punctuality every morning,

arriving at 7.45 am despite having to take two buses. He listened to instructions, without having to be told several times and even got on with tasks himself. He spoke to customers confidently and handled cash transactions including working out change without any issues. He kept the work lists updated each day. Oliver even felt confident enough to price up a job for a new customer. Overall, he was a pleasure to work with.

Good Morning,
My name is Decland Speede and I am the Store Manager at Topps Tiles Watford. I am writing to provide some feedback following Mansoor’s work experience placement with us last week. Throughout his time with us, Mansoor conducted himself in a highly professional manner. He demonstrated a genuine eagerness to learn and showed great enthusiasm in all the tasks he was given. Mansoor approached every responsibility with a positive attitude and was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the work was completed to a high standard. He was polite, respectful, and a pleasure to have in the store. Mansoor represented himself, his family and your school exceptionally well during his placement. Based on my experience working with him during the week, I would not hesitate to offer Mansoor employment in the future.
Kind regards,
Decland Speede

This week we have had an amazing Science Week at school and also seen a number of different STEM related activities taking place across our Multi Academy Trust. A whole variety of different experiments have been showcased at lunchtimes in the Science faculty throughout the week that have really engaged many of our young scientists and generated a lot of inquisitive thought and questioning which has been great to see.

One of the highlights of the week however has been the arrival at Bushey Meads of a perfect replica of the DeLorean Car from the Back to the Future film. In the film, the car is a time travel vehicle constructed from a retrofitted DMC DeLorean. Its time travel ability is derived from the “flux capacitor”, a component that allows the car to travel to the past or future (though not through space). This occurs when the car accelerates to 88 miles per hour and requires 1.21 gigawatts of electricity. The car generated so much interest and enthusiasm it made for a superb day here as part of an amazing week.

A huge thank you goes to all the dedicated science and design and technology teachers who have arranged special activities throughout the week and especially Associate Leader Mr Abusef who put his mind to accomplishing such an inspirational all-day activity on Wednesday that captured and re-kindled the imagination of so many students and staff!

At the end of another very positive week I would like to wish you a happy weekend; do click on the link to read about this week’s BMS News…….
