Executive Principal’s Blog – 14.3.25: ‘Making a Huge Blast at BMS’

It is not an everyday occurrence to have a rocket ‘fly’ into your school and land in the playground, but on Thursday of this week, as part of our wider Science Week celebrations and activities, that is what happened!

Students gathered in the playground from 8.00 am to take photos and pose in front of the 8.3 m Skybolt rocket which was launched for the first time on September 11th 2017.

Created as a result of a collaboration between the University of Chester and Starchaser, the rocket educates and inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists and space explorers through an Educational Outreach Programme. It is seen as a vital step and part of an ambitious programme to build a reusable three-person Thunderstar rocket which will ultimately be used for space tourism.

The launch of Skybolt 2 put Britain back on the map of space-faring nations and it has been great to have it on the school site this week. A huge thank you to our inspirational Associate Leader Mr Absuef for organising the opportunity.
