Executive Principal’s Blog – 15.10.21: ‘Little Things Create Big Achievements’

As parents and carers, I am sure you would like to join me in thanking all the incredibly hardworking staff at Bushey Meads for the numerous ‘little things’ that they do each and every day, without being asked, just doing them for the sake of all the students in our care.

The 19th Century American author Robert Collier (who often wrote about the practical psychology of desire, faith, confident action and personal development) is famous for his quote “Success is the Sum of Small Efforts Repeated Day in Day Out” and at Bushey Meads School we see this having a powerful effect.

The friendly welcome to students on the school gates in the morning, the regular reminders about uniform and behaviour around the school site, hundreds of daily positive interactions during Character Development Time, the punctuality to our duties throughout the week, our presence around the corridors and at break and lunchtime, the daily marking and feedback provided to all students and regular encouragement to use the ‘purple pen of progress’ in powerful response – they don’t go unnoticed and are having a powerful effect.

On Friday mornings one example of the ‘little detail’ is the consistent encouragement for all students to carefully follow the exact words that each CDC is reading to the class in our Friday reading sessions by using the bookmark provided. It reinforces and embeds the literacy by coordinating the auditory and visual responses in action and is just one of those many hundreds of incremental steps and little things we are doing towards making the school truly great in all areas.

At the end of another very successful week at BMS, don’t forget to click on the link to read more about this week’s BMS News……..
