Executive Principal’s Blog – 16.1.26: ‘Holding onto the Good and Being Kind to One Another’
As all stakeholders continue to process the recent events that have come to light, it has been incredibly encouraging and helpful for staff to receive so many messages of support at this difficult time. Students, parents and carers, Governors, ex-students and staff have all played their part. One ex-student who has gone on to become a senior leader in a school sent a message through earlier this week which lifted many spirits in the school. Some of the content of her message is detailed below which I hope you all find helpful:
Good Morning, I wanted to reach out to share. I’m sorry to see what you are all going through as a team at the moment. It must be an incredibly unsettling time for you all. I’m an ex-student….….I wanted to take a few minutes to thank the school for everything that they have ever done and continue to do so well as it’s important to still see the good that happens even during a storm. Sometimes we need people to step up and remind us of those so I hope this email does.
I went to university and studied to become a teacher following my time at Bushey Meads, I am now a Deputy Headteacher and SENCo 16 years into my career. Bushey Meads and teachers within the school played such a role in this career path and the impact you have should never be underestimated.
I could go on forever for the impact that Bushey Meads had on me and my future career. But I will summarise by saying. This is a really hard time for you all, as a school leader myself I can’t imagine the varying emotions you are all going through as you navigate this for yourselves but also for supporting students, families and a colleague through this. I am thinking of you all. But during this, please don’t lose sight of the wonderful things you do. Be kind to yourselves during this time and know that educators across the county have you in our thoughts. The school is more than this one event – so much more and I hope you get through this together, holding onto the good. SENDCo and Deputy Headteacher
In the meantime, as a school community we continue to keep the focus on learning and achievement and I would like to thank all the staff for going the extra mile for the students in their care. In particular, I would like to thank all the staff who are running after school revision classes for our hard-working Year 11 students as they gain significant momentum in their learning and progress post PPE Results. Over 190 students attended the first of the weekly core subject sessions (Maths on Monday, English on Tuesday and Science on Wednesday). It was impressive to see the commitment and focus.
