Executive Principal’s Blog – 16.12.22: “Rising to the Challenge!”

Confidence has been the Theme of the Week this week at Bushey Meads and in our main school assemblies Mrs Ash, Head of Standards Safeguarding and SEND, has been encouraging all students to grow in confidence to be able to take on challenges – quite an apt thought for this time of year with the usual trials that our inclement weather brings. I would like to thank our hard-working site team who have worked tirelessly to keep the school safely open and to all the dedicated staff who have gone the extra mile in difficult conditions to ensure teaching and learning continues as much as possible in the usual high-quality way.
Thank you also to all the parents and carers who have continued to support their children attending school – attendance is a key area that most schools are working hard to improve post Covid and every day counts so much towards the ongoing journey of progress and learning which leads to success for our young people.

As an absolute minimum each student should be aiming for 95% attendance and I would like to congratulate all students who have achieved 98%+ and many who have 100% attendance records at the end of this term. We have been back at school for 15 weeks since September which is actually nearly 40% of the academic year – a big chunk of learning has already taken place.

Two Year 7 students definitely showed confidence to rise to a challenge on Tuesday morning. Dylan – 7Sycamore and George – 7Oak waited at the train station for a train but they were all cancelled and, as there were no buses running, had the confidence to rise to the challenge of walking to school from South Oxhey!

Arriving shortly after 9.00 am, they warmed themselves up with a cup of Hot Chocolate in the School Reception before heading off to lessons. They definitely demonstrated the character that will enable them to go far in life and we are very proud of the spirit they have shown!
