Executive Principal’s Blog – 16.5.25: ‘Realising Potential’
At the core of our school community is that desire to enable all students to fully realise their potential in their educational achievements, with their all-important character and as all-round lifelong learners.
The 19th Century American essayist, philosopher and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson was once quoted as saying “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” His quote links the concepts of intrinsic motivation, daily decision-making and a step-by-step journey to real success.
At this time of year, we see the fruit of that concept working out as our Year 11s and 13s continue to make those daily decisions to come into school for that Study Saturday session in the LRC, complete an extra 12-mark question, attend that final revision lesson and prepare themselves for their next exam.
On that note of realising potential, it was inspiring to hear from one of our ex-students this week – Matthew (pictured here in the old BMS uniform) and see where those decisions he made at Bushey Meads have led to an inspiring destiny. His family contacted us to kindly leave his prom suit, waistcoat, bow tie and shirt, (still in perfect condition) as a generous donation for the upcoming prom to save someone the expense at this time of year. We also heard that he flew through university, attaining a prestigious Masters in Physics and is now working for an international company. He certainly seems to be building on his success at Bushey Meads and is continuing to realise his potential at the highest level. With many thanks for your continued support as parents and carers.
