Executive Principal’s Blog – 22.11.24: ‘Kindness is Key’
We all strive to make sure that kindness is at the heart of Bushey Meads School. Over the next few weeks as we move into our vertical tutoring fortnight – a time when those all-important relationships within our family House structure can be further strengthened and move towards the festive season of goodwill, it seems an opportune time to talk about the power of Random Acts of Kindness, Advent Calendars of Kindness and that spirit of thinking of others, even perhaps before ourselves.
• Small things mean a lot in a school community: • holding a door open for someone • picking up a piece of litter that you hadn’t dropped to keep the school environment clean and tidy • helping a teacher carry some books • getting alongside a friend in a class activity to lend a hand and help them with their learning • looking out for someone, not included in a group activity • smiling at someone and saying “hello” in the morning • wishing them a safe journey home and a pleasant evening • letting someone go through a doorway first • thanking a teacher or Learning Assistant for their work • asking someone if they are okay if they feel a bit down
…..and the list goes on. The good news is that all of those things happen each and every day at Bushey Meads School and serve to make our school community such a lovely, friendly and positive place. Parents and carers are key as well and I would like to thank you all for your positive support and encouragement. One small thing that a minority of parents and carers could be mindful of is when picking up your children from school. A number of local residents have unfortunately contacted the school and raised an issue of some of our parents parking across their drives on local roads, especially on Coldharbour Lane. If we could all be mindful of this it would help to support our very positive relationships in the community. Thank you in advance.
Our students are also showing Acts of Kindness in our local community and I was impressed with Kieran in 7 Elm who is playing a leading part in helping to organise and promote a Christmas Fair at St Peter’s Church in Watford, WD24 7PE this Saturday between 1.00 and 4.00 pm. Under 16s can attend free so, if you want to join in the Christmas fun, do go along.
As always do click on the link to read this week’s BMS News highlighting some of the other things that have been happening.
With very best wishes for a good weekend.
