Executive Principal’s Blog – 26.4.24 – ‘Exemplary Role Models’

Often young people get a bad press in the media. Each and every day however the privilege of teaching and working in a school enables us to see literally hundreds of positive interactions each and every day. Simple things such as helping a friend, opening a door for someone, saying a kind word, stepping up to a leadership position, participating in a dance performance, creating amazing art work, helping the teacher in the classroom, politely asking or answering questions, saying ‘thank you’ or merely just doing your best in class, show so many of the young people in our care role-modelling good behaviour and conduct each and every day.

As parents and carers, you should be immensely proud of the way you have raised your children to do so well in life and at school. Just this week I have had that positive view reinforced by members of the wider community. An article in the newsletter this week explains how one of our Year 11 students helped a member of the public with their shopping in Tesco – something that had such an impact it resulted in that person emailing into school describing the student as “very kind and an asset to your school community”

Kacey in Year 8 has also been recognised for her amazing contribution outside of school. Clare Tyler – Community and Engagement Manager for Adoption UK emailed me last week to thank Kacey for all her hard work volunteering for Adoption UK at the recent prestigious ‘Voice in a Million Event’ at Wembley Arena.

Kacey led the banner parade with great confidence in front of a full arena at Wembley! A huge amount of money was raised for the charity and greater awareness of adoption and children in care brought about. Kacey collected donations throughout the evening and came on stage when Adoption UK were spoken about. She was described as “a real superstar”.

As always, do read this week’s BMS News highlighting many other activities that have taken place in our wonderful school.

With best wishes for a good weekend.
