Executive Principal’s Blog – 27.9.24: ’Building on the New’

The words of the 5th Century BC Greek philosopher Socrates, widely credited as the true father of western thought, are probably worth considering at this time of year as we see our students embrace the challenges and opportunities of new transitions in their school life. American attorney and politician Roy Cooper also reminds us that transitions are a time for both reflection and looking forward; something we have encouraged all students to do at this time of year.

Besides last week’s Year 6 Open Evening (which is all about that hugely important transition from primary to secondary school) this term we have already held three important transition evenings: our Year 7 Settling In Evening, Welcome to Year 12 Evening and our Kick into Key Stage 4 Evening, the latter two events taking place earlier this week.

I would like to thank all parents and carers for attending these important events and for showing your valued support for your children as they make these important transitions. At the Kick into Key Stage 4 Evening the messages were very clear:
  • aim for great attendance
  • foster an excellent attitude to learning
  • remember to seek support from those around you
        and
  • revise a little and often every day
Working hard right from the start and doing the extra in the way that best suits you (through the many online learning platforms provided, or from revision guides or by accessing past papers on the google drive) to prepare yourself to be really successful in your Pre-Public Exams in June of this academic year and beyond into Year 11.

With really important key important messages given during the evening by Assistant Headteacher Mrs Greenwood, Pastoral Manager Mrs Smith and Associate Leader and Senior Leadership Link to Year 10 Mr Abusef, we wish all our Year 10 students every success for the future as they move on from the past and start to build on this new and exciting chapter in their lives, embracing the increased independence, challenges in learning and new opportunities it brings.

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old but on building the new.” Socrates 470 – 399 BC
