On Monday of this week we were delighted to be able to welcome bestselling education author and internationally renowned presenter and teacher trainer Sue Cowley to our Multi Academy Trust. Sue gave an outstanding keynote speech at the start of the 2023 Bushey St James Trust Annual Conference attended by the 240 staff across the three schools in our MAT.
Talking from her extensive experience of teaching in early years, primary and secondary settings and sharing some of the enlightening details from her bestselling books (including the long-standing teacher favourite âHow to Survive Your First Year in Teachingâ) she set a very positive tone for the day. Â Teaching and learning leaders from across the Trust then offered an eclectic range of practical workshops for staff to attend, all based around the hugely important theme of Adaptive Learning. So much best practice was shared which will undoubtedly support all our learners in the classrooms across our schools to maximise their potential in lessons throughout the year. Â Our hardworking and dedicated Associate Staff also had a positive day completing relevant training on Cyber Security and also participating in an art-based wellbeing workshop. There were many positive comments from staff clearly appreciating the day; here are just two examples:
I just wanted to say a big thank you for organising the workshop we had on Monday making Calm Books. I personally found it not only interesting and great fun, but also very calming. Looking around the room everyone seemed engrossed with the project and there was lots of laughter to be heard, which is so nice to see in our colleagues as we know school at times can be challenging; seeing everyone relaxed and enjoying the time together was uplifting.
One of the amazing Calm Books produced in the workshop.
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday and for organising the painting session. It was excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. It was such a good activity as it brought the Associate Staff together. I think it would be an excellent idea for the two-day wellbeing conference in February as then a number of teachers would also benefit from the session as well.Â
I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work in making the conference such a success but especially our outstanding Business Manager across the Trust Ms Coombs, Senior Lead Practitioner Mrs Hoskins and Associate Leader Mr Obamakin.
As we start this new half term in such a positive way, I hope that we can continue to build on the success of this year so far. As parents and carers do continue to encourage your children to make the most of every opportunity afforded to them at Bushey Meads School â trying their best in lessons, following the Keys to Success, demonstrating a positive attitude to learning at school and at home and also making the most of the plethora of extracurricular opportunities on offer at the school.
