Executive Principal’s Blog – 5.6.20: ‘Changing the World – one Person at a Time’

Recent tragic events in Minneapolis have reminded us of the shocking discrimination that so often affects black and minority ethnic groups across our world and rightly stirs us here at Bushey Meads to remember the absolute imperative to always treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves. Our mantra ‘Our School has a Mind to be Kind’ is more important than ever as we continue to work together to make our world a better place.

It was the Black African American actor and film narrator Morgan Freeman who reminded us that we can all play a significant part in changing our world, simply through one random act of kindness at a time. He is also quoted as asking and answering the question:

“How are we going to get rid of racism – stop talking about it!”

People all over the world are talking about racism and, if that stirs us to stand alongside those who have been oppressed for generations and commit ourselves to being the change makers that we know we can be, then that is only a good and really positive thing.

This week it has been so encouraging to see a small but significant number of Year 12 and Year 10 students catching up with their work prior to lessons officially starting on June 15th or 22nd. They have actually really appreciated being back in school, seeing their peers and their teachers once again and working hard in a supervised environment to get back on track. If you are also behind with your work and want to join them next week do contact Pastoral Manager Mrs Blowers or Associate Leader and Head of Sixth Form Mr O’Kelly.

With best wishes for a good weekend and as usual don’t forget to click on the link to this week’s BMS News.
