Executive Principal’s Blog – 5 June 2015

There are some amazing students at Bushey Meads School excelling at literally the highest level. Only this week we heard that one of our talented Year 11 sports stars Dominic Ashwell has become the fastest 100 m sprinter in the UK for U17 men for the year to date. His amazing time of 10.56 seconds puts him in a strong position for selection to the 2015 Youth Commonwealth Games, being held in Samoa in October. Do read about him in the article in this week’s newsletter.

Our staff are also excelling and sharing some exemplary work on a national stage. Our hard working Business Studies teacher Elaine Pinkus has been selected to showcase her work with her GCSE class and their Coca Cola Challenge. The project, which involves students forming small companies to develop a 100 per cent fruit juice brand and culminates in presentations to teachers and sixth formers who then decide who should go forward to represent the school at a Regional Final, is published on the Edexcel Pearson website…….

We also welcomed the Mayor of Hertsmere Councillor Martin Worster to our school on Tuesday to see the impact of our exciting community athletics project organised in collaboration with Watford Harriers. The project is building on the ongoing success of our superb PE and Health Faculty and is encouraging so many of our students to Aspire to Achieve in yet another sporting arena. Grateful thanks must go to Sarah Cooper for her outstanding partnership and community work in setting up and overseeing this great opportunity.

As we continue to work hard to improve the school and ensure that all students achieve their true potential, we are now beginning to think about our school day for September 2015. Do read the article in this week’s newsletter about the consultation period and please consider giving your opinions via the survey.
