Executive Principal’s Blog – 7.11.25: ‘Engaging and Enriching Lives’

This morning we awarded five teachers MEGA Awards – a BMS award that recognises staff who ‘modelled and embedded greatness’ with their leadership of a truly inspiring Naples Trip which saw over 40 students travel to Italy at the end of the last half term and during the first weekend of the holiday.

Students commented that the trip created “so many long-lasting memories” and opened up their minds to so much history and many new experiences. A big thank you needs to go to our inspirational Head of Geography Mr Murray for overseeing and leading the trip, but also to all the staff who gave up their precious holiday to make it a reality for all those involved.

Enriching lives happened closer to home this Thursday as well and I would like to thank all staff for making this week’s Enrichment Day such a success.

At Key Stage 3, Year 7 students had the opportunity to try out some specialist GCSE subjects including Business Studies & Economics, Child Development, Computer Science, IT, Law, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. Year 8 students created their Mars Rovers and undertook realistic astronaut training and Year 9s explored exciting career opportunities in the world of performing and visual arts, one of the largest employment industries in the UK.

For Key Stage 4, Year 10s spent the day learning about the workplace and careers that exist and those that have yet to be invented and also had the opportunity to take part in formal interviews with visiting leaders from the business world. Year 11s had an incredibly focused day completing their English GCSE Speaking and Listening tasks, covering a huge range of engaging and inspiringly, thought-provoking topics and themes.

Year 12 students broadened their cultural capital by spending the day at some of London’s icon museums and art galleries and Year 13 students took time to write CVs and personal statements to support their exciting next steps into degree apprenticeships and inspiring university destinations.

The week started with our annual Bushey St James Trust Conference for all staff across our multi academy trust, launched by international speaker Laura Knight under the theme of Innovate, Include and Inspire and, as you can see, we put that theme into practice this week – a big thank you to all the staff involved in making this week such a positive start to the new half term.
