Executive Principal’s Blog – 7.3.25: ‘Parents and Carers Making a Massive Difference’

I would like to thank the many parents who attended one of three parental engagement meetings hosted by our two Deputy Headteachers earlier this week. We really appreciated the time you gave to the table discussions about teaching and learning, behaviour and communication and are grateful for all the great ideas generated. These will definitely feed into our ongoing school improvement journey and we hope you see some immediate benefits over the next few weeks taking place. Some ideas inevitably cost a bit more money than others and may take more time to embed, so some patience might be needed with those ones.

This week we have seen our amazing Year 10 students go out into the work place as part of their work experience programme and have been overwhelmed with the positive messages of praise received by the school about their conduct and hard work. Here are just two examples:

Patryk was absolutely brilliant this week as a work experience student in Year 3 with my class. He was so professional and calm. He worked so patiently and supportively with multiple children, some with very complex needs. He enabled them to access their learning opportunities in a really positive way. He also took initiative at every opportune moment, looking around for little jobs that made all our lives a little bit easier this week. I just wanted to express how grateful the Year 3 team were to have him with us and I would gladly have him back any time! Perhaps he should consider a career in education!

I would like to commend the four young people for their exceptional performance during their placement. They have demonstrated remarkable maturity, confidence, and politeness throughout their time with us. Their conduct has been a true credit to your school. What particularly impressed me was how proactively they have engaged with our children. Their enthusiasm and willingness to participate in all aspects of school life has been exemplary. This was especially evident during this week’s Ofsted inspection, where all four students conducted themselves incredibly well. I had the opportunity to join the inspector in observing a Year 2 English lesson where Nathalie was working with a group on a drama piece. Her confidence in ‘teaching’ the children was astounding – the inspector would not have identified her as a Year 10 student based on her professional conduct and capabilities. Similarly, Joshua, Jason, and Annabel were participating effectively in lessons that the inspector visited, contributing positively to the inspection process. You should be immensely proud of these young people. They have represented Bushey Meads School with distinction and we would welcome them back at any time. Thank you for preparing such exceptional students for the workplace.

We have also received some really incredibly positive feedback about some of our teachers this week and it has really ‘made their day’ so thank you for the comments:

My daughter was saying to me today “I actually aspire to being like my teacher when I’m older. When she walks into the room, she gets immediate respect without really doing anything. She is really approachable and everyone goes to her. She once said ‘Do not mistake my kindness for weakness, which I really respected mum’. She is so relatable, amazing and inspiring”. Every child needs a teacher like you that makes them feel the way that my daughter does. So, thank to you for being one of those inspiring, engaging and respected teachers that children will remember into adulthood. Year 12 Parent

I wanted to email about my children’s teacher who has been nothing short of amazing. She has stepped up to support and teach classes across KS4 and 5 and teaches both my daughters. We are lucky enough that she is also my son’s CDC so she is involved with all three of my children and they all think she is fantastic. She works so hard, is so supportive, is a fantastic teacher and always has a smile on her face! She goes above and beyond and is a true credit to Bushey Meads. Please pass on my sincere thanks.
