Executive Principal’s Blog – 9.1.26: ‘Supporting Each Other in Difficult Times’
At the end of a very difficult week in the life of the school and the local community, it has been encouraging to see students, staff and parents and carers coming together. It has reminded us that a challenging time can be an opportunity for human beings to rise beyond themselves.
I would like to thank all stakeholders for their support over the last few days and for focusing on continuing to show kindness, working hard and embodying those important core values that we hold dear, in and beyond our school community. I would also like to thank all parents and carers in showing understanding that we are unable as a school to provide any further details than what has been already shared due to restrictions of the judicial process that is currently being undertaken.
I am aware that the Pastoral Team have communicated their continued commitment to supporting all students at this difficult time and would signpost all parents and carers to our robust safeguarding policies and procedures that are in place and regularly reviewed by relevant agencies and our Governors and Trustees. These are all available via the school website and are regularly signposted to students and staff through our ongoing training and personal development programmes in place in the school.
We are very aware of the emotional and psychological impact that the news this week may have brought, but need all stakeholders to realise that we continue to absolutely prioritise the safeguarding and wellbeing of all those connected with the school. Just this morning the Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Mia Handley contacted the school offering her support and that of the Borough Council to anyone who might need it at this time.
We will of course continue to signpost students past and present to support networks in place both in and beyond the school. One particular local support network is The Safe Space for Girls Club which runs today from 4.00 pm until 6.00 pm at St James’s Church House. This Safe Space is normally open on the first Friday of each month but is opening today.
