Executive Principal’s Blog – 11.7.25: What a Week!’

I would like to thank all the staff and students at Bushey Meads for making this week such a positive week in so many different respects. Our two Sports Days on Monday and Tuesday provided sessions for each year groups in the school to participate in a whole range of sporting activities and events, competing for their House in a supportive and encouraging environment for all.

The first ever Meads Fest organised by Miss Vail on Wednesday afternoon and evening was a great success and it was so lovely to see so many students showcasing their talents and parents and carers and their families enjoying the festival atmosphere on the back field. The following email was indicative of the genuine appreciation:

I am writing to let you know how much I thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon’s MeadsFest. What a thoroughly entertaining programme – from the colourful Shakespearean comedy to the diverse musical genres, all made for a great show. It was clear that all participants had great fun showcasing their talents – and I include the fabulous ‘teacher band’ in that!
Bushey Meads is so lucky to have such a fabulous set of staff who can share in their love of performing music alongside the students – what a great example they set.I look forward to doing it all again next year! Year 11 and 13 Parent and Parent Governor

Individual students also continue to demonstrate exemplary behaviour and conduct and live out our 3Rs and Mind to Be Kind mantra, demonstrated by this email I received earlier this week.

Dear Mr. Turner, I wanted to write and express my thanks and gratitude to one of your amazing year nine students, Lisa of Elm. Yesterday at around 4.00 pm I had just helped an elderly gentleman in his 80s who had fallen off his bike into the path of oncoming traffic and got him to the safety of the shops. On hearing what had happened, Lisa was simply amazing by keeping an eye on a gentleman with me, while still giving him his independence and dignity. Lisa was very compassionate and showed concern for the gentleman who was very lucky not to have sustained any major injuries.

After keeping an eye on the gentleman for almost 40 minutes, I was with Lisa’s help able to walk him home. Lisa was so kind and remained by the shops watching until we got to the end of Meadow Road safely with his bike; ready to step in if the gentleman needed further assistance. Lisa’s compassion and kindness is a credit to your school and her parents and you should all be very proud to have such a wonderful young lady at Bushey Meads.

In this week’s article you can also read an article about another Year 9 student Khaden who did the Watford Football Club Step Up Challenge – raising money for the NHS and also completing the climb in just 17 minutes, now holding the record for the quickest time!
