Executive Principal’s Blog – 13 November 2015

It was a real delight to welcome, not only so many of our existing Year 11 students, but also a growing number of external students from a variety of local schools to our Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday evening of this week. At a time when most schools and Sixth Forms are restricting choice and narrowing the curriculum offer, at BMS we are doing the opposite and are offering a greater breadth of both academic and vocational subjects than ever before.

Our teaching staff are exemplary in their fields, the outcomes for students place us well into the top 25% of schools nationally for adding value at post 16 and our provision is becoming increasingly popular in the local area. I would like to thank all staff for yet again showcasing our school and effectively supporting our hard working Year 11 students at this crucial time of their lives.

EPB 151113 1Also this week we were privileged to welcome the Mayor of Hertsmere Councillor Martin Worster to our school to present a prestigious award in recognition of the success of our Satellite Athletics Club (delivered in partnership with Watford Harriers) winning the East Region Satellite Club of the Year. I would like to thank our dedicated and hardworking Heads of Girls PE Sarah Cooper and all the staff who support her for all their hard work in setting up and overseeing this fantastic extra-curricular opportunity that benefits so many of our students throughout the year.

EPB 151113 2On Thursday, after a busy and highly successful enrichment day, many students, staff and parents thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic House Talent Show; 18 really quality acts performed on stage in the Main Hall and showcased the very best of BMS Performing Arts talent. Congratulations go to all the performers who were superb, the runners up, the winners of each category and of course the overall winner Amy Murray who stole the show with her superb vocal and guitar performance at the end of the evening and walked away with the stunning winner’s trophy.

Next week we are looking forward to our second annual Governors Day when we welcome all our Governors to the school to take our Main School Assembly, meet with students and staff, enjoy a tour of our constantly improving learning environment and finish the day with some super performances provided by our talented Performing Arts students.

With best wishes for a great weekend and don’t forget to click on the link to read about the rest of this week’s BMS News…….. and Sixth Form news
