Executive Principal’s Blog – 15.5.20: ‘We Rise by Lifting Others’
I would like to thank all our teachers and hardworking Associate Staff for all they are doing both in and out of school to ensure that Bushey Meads School continues to do all it can to support our children with their education at this challenging time. Senior leaders are also unpicking the latest government announcements made earlier this week and I am also liaising with other local Headteachers as to what plans might look like in terms of potential ‘face to face’ contact with students in key year groups before the end of term.
In the secondary phase the key year groups would be our Year 10 and Year 12 students who are preparing for external examinations during the next academic year. If the statistics related to the epidemic continue to fall, this might be some kind of teaching in school, perhaps on a reduced and amended timetable and with all the social distancing measures and increased cleaning regimes in place. Whilst this may seem a long way off, we will of course keep you well informed about any future plans.
It has been lovely to watch and listen to some excellent House and Main School Assemblies recorded online for students to enjoy and I have heard many positive comments from students and parents who have appreciated hearing the voices of their Heads of House or Pastoral Leaders to remind them of the care that we have for each and every student at BMS. Here was one such response:
Hello Mr Malik,
I do hope that you are keeping well. How lovely to hear your voice on the mental health awareness week advice this week, it really made all the difference to us to hear you and to see the pictures of times when all of the school were in the hall for assembly, which seems somewhat out of reach just now. We are all looking forward to the new normal when it happens. Take care,
Year 9 Parent
I would like to thank all students and parents and carers for their ongoing support and encouragement at this time, epitomised by the email I received last week:
Dear Mr Turner,
I just wanted to check in with you to see how you are doing. I hope that you and your family are all well and that you are keeping sane during the lockdown. I also wanted to say ‘Thank you’ for all your hard work which you have been doing to ensure that the children are still accessing learning and keeping in touch with them to make them feel as safe, secure and normal as you can.
