Executive Principal’s Blog – 16.10.26: ‘A fantastic school – nurturing and encouraging….….’This week it was a real privilege to welcome County Coucillor Dr Beth Kelly to Bushey Meads School and, along with the Chair of Governors Di Hoeksma, it was great to be able to introduce her to a number of key staff and a cross section of students. She was incredibly impressed with the positive attitudes to learning she saw in classrooms across the school site and the variety of activities taking place in lessons. She could see first hand the quality first teaching delivered by the committed staff and how engaged students were in the variety of courses on offer at the school. Year 11 students in the Kings Trust course learning about finances were able to explain about tax thresholds, national insurance and the pros and cons of loans. Year 10 students were preparing effectively for an upcoming maths assessemnt and students in an additional English intevention sessions were using their time very wisely with their Pre Public Exams looming on the horizon.
The highlights of her time at the school included a visit to the BSJT Art gallery where she enjoyed viewing the inspirational work on display, as well as a personal guided tour of the Outdoor Education Area by the very profssional Year 11 guide Ashton. Dr Kelly’s comment in our Visitors’ Book summed up her thoughts about our fabulous learning community here at Bushey Meads:
“This is a fantastic school nurturing and encouraging all students.”
Cllr Beth Kelly Our students continue to thrive and really shine in the dedicated care of their Character Development Coaches, teachers and Learning Assistants. One example of this was provided by the BMS Dance Group who performed in our Black History themed main school assemblies this week led by Assistant Headteacher Miss Silla. The theme for Black History Month 2026 is Honouring Our Communities which includes a focus on celebrating the everyday individuals, grassroots networks, volunteers, and local organiaations who today sustain and strengthen Black British life and have done across history. Do click on the link to hear a snippet of the awesome Black History-inspired dance piece performed superbly by our BMS Dance Group who themselves contribute so much to our community here at BMS.
