Executive Principal’s Blog – 9.10.26: ‘Staying Safe in a Digital World….’
The world that young people are growing up in is a very different and much more complex world than the context of previous generations. Whilst we all recognise the huge benefits of this digital age, we are all becoming increasingly aware of the ever-growing dangers and negative impacts.
The Main School Assemblies this week, led by our outstanding Associate Leader Mr Abusef, were all the more important to hear. Providing some quite shocking government research data indicating that young people on average are spending more than 4 hours a day on their screens, explaining about how media platforms employ highly-paid attention engineers to write algorithms to addict us all to the online world and reminding students about the importance of having a healthy online digital footprint were key aspects of what he shared.
He also informed all students to be immensely careful when using AI, especially during their time in Key Stage 4 and explained that any misuse could result in a zero mark in a GCSE examination and a possible ban by the exam board. Parents and carers do carefully read the Schools AI Policy so you are fully informed: AI Use in Assessment Policy
As parents and carers do also continue to carefully monitor your children’s devices and remind them of the dangers and health warnings about too much screen time. We all want the best for the children in our care and want them all to not be hindered or impacted negatively by anything they do or post online.
With very best wishes for a good weekend, above all stay safe, and don’t forget to click on the link to read about this week’s BMS News…….
