Executive Principal’s Blog – 20.3.26: ‘Culture Eats Strategy for Breakfast!’

The subtitle of this week’s blog is taken from a famous phrase, commonly attributed to management guru Peter Drucker who died at the age of 95 last year. As a widely respected Austrian American management consultant, educator, and author, his writings contributed massively to the philosophical and practical foundations of modern management theory. This particular phrase means that an organisation’s culture, values, behaviours and beliefs, are far more impactful on success than any strategic plan. Even the best strategy will fail if the key stakeholders connected with the organisation do not live out its culture.

Last week we put our ‘Mind to Be Kind’ culture and mantra to the test and, under the Theme of Week – Consideration, wanted to formally recognise with an R3 Award how many students showed great consideration or demonstrated a notable act of kindness. By the end of the week over 317 R3s had been awarded to 264 different students. Over 21% (more than 1 in 5) students at Bushey Meads School had shown great consideration and kindness which is phenomenal! Students from every year groups from Year 7 right through to Year 13 were recognised; we do have a really kind school here at BMS and that is something to be very proud of.

The 10 kindest students recognised last week at Bushey Meads were awarded 30 R3s between them:
  1. Georgi in 7 Maple
  2. Bhagya in 7 Maple
  3. Ellis in 7 Ash
  4. Erin in 7 Beech
  5. Imogen in 8 Sycamore
  6. Shaan in 9 Sycamore
  7. Thujani in 11 Ash
  8. Tobias in 10 Beech
  9. Zarah in 10 Maple
  10. Abigail in 8 Willow
The top 10 Character Development Groups awarded 136 R3s between them were:
  1. 9 Sycamore
  2. 7 Maple
  3. 9 Maple
  4. 7 Ash
  5. 9 Oak
  6. 9 Ash
  7. 7 Elm
  8. 9 Elm
  9. 8 Willow
  10. 10 Elm
The year groups gaining the Top 3 spots – awarded 283 R3s between them were: Year 9 (97 R3 Acts of Kindness and Consideration)
  1. Year 7 (82 R3 Acts of Kindness and Consideration)
  2. Year 8 and 10 (52 R3 Acts of Kindness and Consideration)
I would commend all students who gained an R3 Award last week and thank the 60 different staff who awarded these special awards. Let’s remember to keep the kindness, consideration and formal recognition going! At the end of another very positive week I would like to wish you a happy weekend; do click on the link to read about this week’s BMS News…….
