Executive Principal’s Blog – 6.3.26: ‘Great Readers Make Great Leaders’

During this week in school it has been exciting to feel the momentum being built around our desire to see reading really flourish as an innate and in-built passion and desire in all of our students.

Knowing the truth behind the famous quote attributed to Harry Truman the 33rd president of the United States, who served from 1945 to 1953 (assuming the presidency upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt that year), we all know that a love of reading and a commitment to improving literacy as a foundation for continuous learning and the gaining of knowledge, is a cornerstone for high achievement.

It also plays a part in the development of effective leadership; successful leaders are almost always committed to reading. Reading helps leaders understand history, learn from past mistakes, and expands their mental capacity.

Staff have had some fun decorating their classroom doors and sharing with students about their favourite books that have inspired them. The annual cake decorating competition was again a huge success and the inspiring assemblies this week led by Mrs Wilson, our Learning Resource Centre Coordinator, have all played their part in encouraging all students to continue to develop good habits with reading.

At the end of another very positive week I would like to wish you a happy weekend; do click on the link to read about this week’s BMS News…….
