Executive Principal’s Blog – 9.7.21: ‘Exemplary Secondary Transition Support’

I am always in awe of all the hardworking and dedicated staff at Bushey Meads who so often go the extra mile for the students in their care and indeed those in our wider community. As usual at this time of year we offer a Secondary School Experience Week to all the Year 6 students in our Multi Academy Trust, irrespective of whether or not they are intending to join us here in September. This year, despite the continued restrictions, we have still been able to offer this experience, keeping them in their Year 6 Bubbles at all times. Hartsbourne Primary School Deputy Headteacher Mrs Harper sent us this email at the end of the very successful week:

Dear Mr Turner and Mr Searle,

Just a quick email to say thank you so much for laying on such an enjoyable secondary experience week again this year.  It becomes easy to take these Multi Academy Trust privileges for granted as they become a regular fixture in the school calendar, but this year more than ever I have appreciated the efforts made by your lovely staff, who must be thoroughly exhausted! I know that the children joining Bushey Meads from Hartsbourne feel much more familiar and confident as a result of the week, and also know that the experience will have been extremely valuable for those going elsewhere.
Kind regards,
Mr Harper
Deputy Headteacher
Our outstanding SENDCo Mrs Dillon and her fabulous team have also arranged a number of individual and group visits for many students who have perhaps needed some additional support at what can be a very stressful time (Covid-19 or not) and all of the students who have been welcomed by her team have thoroughly enjoyed their visits to the school. Parents have also provided so much positive feedback for what we as a school have done to support the journey from the primary to secondary phase of their education; it has been so encouraging to hear. With best wishes for a good weekend and as usual don’t forget to click on the link to this week’s BMS News.
