Executive Principal’s Blog – 9.10.20: ‘Very Good Infection Prevention and Control at BMS’

On Wednesday of this week we were pleased to welcome back to Bushey Meads School members of the Public Health Team in Hertsmere and the HCC Infection Prevention and Control Team to see the additional measures we have implemented since their last visit. They were once again very impressed with the daily cleaning routines across the school and the stringent protocols we have in place to support all students to access their full curriculum entitlement, but also be able to track and trace close contacts in lessons throughout the day where needed.

As a result of their visit and helpful feedback we are making a few additional modifications; these include:

  • placing additional screens by the tills in the restaurant and Pod in the Quad
  • removing a few lids on internal litter bins around the school site
  • increasing the daytime cleaning capacity to ensure even more frequent cleaning of high touch points
  • providing air humidifiers in a few of our smaller classrooms
  • increasing the deep cleaning regime across the site
  • making a few minor modifications to resources accessed by students in PE (provision of more bibs etc.)

I was extremely proud of our students as always and the visitors were really impressed with their movement on corridors, following our embedded keep left policy. With that in mind, we are now considering implementing a similar system (potentially based around a one-way system) for movement outdoors. These additional measures will continue to build on our exemplary Covid-19 practice which the visitors clearly recognised and are recommending to other schools across Hertfordshire.

Most of the close contacts now being identified by the few students who have unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19 are from their friendship groups. The Infection Prevention Control Team reminded us that unfortunately as a school we have limited control over what students do outside of school, so I would like to remind and thank parents and carers for their continued support with maintaining physical distance within children’s friendship groups, both in and out of school.

With the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 that we are all experiencing it has been good to once again hear the clear support from parents and carers for all we are doing to keep your children safe and learning in school as much as is possible.  Do remember that our Covid-19 FAQs are being updated each and every week so remember to click on this link for the latest information: Covid-19 Frequently Asked Questions

In addition, for a very helpful parent ‘COVID-19 Related Student Absence Guide’ please also refer to: Covid-19 Related Student Absence Guide

Finally I would like to thank the key leaders and our talented IT Team at BMS for putting together such a professional media presentation for this year’s Open Day and Evening for Prospective Parents available via our school website: Open Day and Evening Media Presentation

For those who signed up for the event (which this year unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the rise of Covid-19 cases in the Hertsmere area) they will already have seen a preview of the presentation. If however you know of any Year 6 students interested in gaining a place at our increasingly popular school, do pass on the link for them to gain a flavour of our wonderful learning community here at BMS.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support for all the staff and students at Bushey Meads. I wish you all a very happy weekend and as always do click on the usual link to read our latest BMS News.
