Executive Principal’s Blog – 29.9.23: ’Enriching Children’s Lives’
Today has seen our first Enrichment Day of the year take place and it has been great to see all students engaged in a whole variety of different activities that truly extend their learning and cultural capital well beyond the classroom. The days really do what they say ‘on the tin’. A huge thank you goes to all staff who make the exciting opportunities happen and especially to Assistant Headteacher Mrs Greenwood for masterminding and overseeing our Enrichment Programme throughout the year.
Year 7s gained a taste of becoming future leaders at Kidzania whilst Year 8 students grappled with the STEM related concepts aligned with a Missions to Mars. Year 9s had a packed day looking at all aspects of staying healthy including sessions on the hugely topical and important themes of the real dangers of vaping and drugs, energy foods, lifestyle illnesses and relieving stress. Year 10s took part in an immersion day related to their GCSE subject choices, some even going on trips to London and taking part in practical activities at a local sailing club.
Year 11s participated in a very important day linked to careers and taking those all-important next steps beyond school, whilst Year 12 students visited a whole range of culturally based venues in our capital city to broaden their horizons. Year 13s spent time looking at their next steps beyond Sixth Form. All in all, a truly enriching experience and a great way to end a very successful week.
On a final note it was great to meet our Sixth Form parents, especially some of our ‘new to Sixth Form’ families on Tuesday evening and also so good to see many of our Year 7 parents and carers attending our hugely popular Come Dine with Me Event on Wednesday, visiting Year 7 lessons and enjoying a typical BMS lunch menu with their children in the School Restaurant.
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend. Do click on the link to read this week’s BMS News.
