PE & Health
Curriculum : All students in KS3 participate in 2 hours of PE per week. Lessons are set up in gender and ability split groups to allow all students to have a positive physical experience whilst maximising individual potential. All students will participate in a wide range of activities including invasion games, net court games, striking-fielding games, athletics, gymnastics as well as a range of other activities including team building, sports education/leadership. All students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities which include recreational sports clubs and an extensive range of competitive sports fixtures.
Curriculum : All students in KS4 participate in 1 hour of PE per week. Classes are organised into gender and ability split groups with each class being given some choice about activities according to group interests. All students are encouraged to regularly participate in health related physical activity and take responsibility for their own healthy lifestyle. Recreational clubs and competitive fixtures are available in a range of sports.
Qualification courses are offered in GCSE PE (a combination of practical and assessment in sports science) and Level 2 vocational Sports Studies (practical, OA, Sports Leadership). A select group of students will follow Sports Leadership qualifications.
Qualification courses: Two sports based qualification are offered at KS5 (a) A Level PE- a study of sports science (anatomy and physiology, applied sports physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, skill acquisition and the socio-cultural factors affecting sport (including contemporary issues) and practical assessment and (b) L3 vocational; Sport and Physical Activity including anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, practical assessment and the organisation of sport in the UK.
